Throughout the 2014-2015 school year, Van Wyck Junior High School’s Student Government, with the help of the Drama Club, has worked to raise money for a local non-profit organization, Julie’s Jungle.  Student Government raised money by holding movie nights, free-throw contests and school dances.  Proceeds went to Julie’s Jungle and Van Wyck students happily bought the tickets, knowing their money was going to an amazing cause.  The drama club held a silent auction to raise money for Julie’s Jungle.
On Wednesday, June 17, 2015, Janet McHugh, Steve Caswell and Bill Green arrived at Van Wyck to accept the check.  After presenting them with the donation, student government members commented on how they were proud to have helped, especially after hearing Janet speak so passionately about the organization.  As the Wappingers Central School District’s mission states, our goal is to empower all of our students with the competencies and confidence to challenge themselves, to pursue their passions, and to realize their potential while growing as responsible members of their community.
